Over the past few weeks, several members of congregations in the Northeast Kingdom participated in an initial formation and training series for Worship Leaders. Four sessions were held in which participants explored the ministry of a Worship Leader; learned of the gifts, skills, and competencies needed for this licensed ministry; and studied the Service of Morning Prayer. People new to and discerning this ministry as well as experienced Worship Leaders were part of the collaborative learning circle.
Some of those participating–Linda, Mardee, Christine, Diane G., Robin, and Diane M.
The need for instruction and formation for Worship Leaders emerged from the NEK Mission Conversation, a roundtable of representatives, clergy and lay, from five NEK congregations. The congregations are identifying and discussing common needs and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
Seven participants completed the Worship Leader training and will now return to discernment and further training at their local congregation. Some will go on to be licensed for this liturgical ministry.
Participants in the sessions overall included Christine Moseley, St. Mark’s in Newport; Jodi Gonyaw-Worth, Christ Church in Island Pond; Mardee Conover, Diane Green, Linda Miller, and Jonathan Ross, all of St. Peter’s in Lyndonville; and Robin Bergman and Diane Montague of St. Andrew’s in St. Johnsbury. The formation sessions were facilitated by Susan Ohlidal, Canon for Ministry Development.
