Stirrings of the Spirit and VT Interfaith Action
Looking for a way to live into your faith in your neighborhood?
Looking for a way to take action with people of many faiths on issues that affect us all?
Stirrings of the Spirit, an initiative of the Episcopal Church in Vermont, has created a new partnership with Vermont Interfaith Action, (VIA) a faith-based, grassroots coalition of congregations that transforms people into empowered and engaged citizens.
A partnership for what?…
For congregations to become outwardly-focused in mission; to be transformed into effective participants in public life—followers of Jesus in the neighborhood and town; and to identify and act on issues both regionally and state-wide that impact people’s lives. Real, practical, Christianity in action that makes a difference.
What will we do?…
In partnership with VIA, Stirrings of the Spirit will offer training opportunities to congregations to develop interfaith regional clusters. Our congregations will engage in an intentional formation process that includes reflecting on Scripture, learning how to have deep conversations with people in wider community circles, and collaborating in social action that will foster systemic change in our towns and state.
Who’s coordinating?…
The Rev. Beth Ann Maier, Deacon in the Episcopal Church, will coordinate the start-up of the partnership with The Rev. Debbie Ingram, Director of VIA. Beth Ann has worked with VIA in partnerships among Episcopal and other congregations in Burlington, Montpelier, and Barre.
Who pays?…
Support for this partnership project is from The Constable Fund of The Episcopal Church and funds from The Episcopal Church in Vermont/Stirrings of the Spirit.
