Ministry Fair “Musings”: “Discovering God in the Neighborhood”
Coming to your friendly church bulletin soon!!!!
Ministry Fairs 2014

9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
September 27 – St. Paul’s Cathedral, Burlington
October 18 – St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, White River Junction

“…The Master selected seventy and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he intended to go…He gave them this charge… tell them, ‘God’s kingdom is right on your doorstep.’” Luke 10:1-9 (The Message Bible)

Where do you see God at work in the world?

Familiar places, of course: soup kitchens, food shelves, homeless shelters; but what about the less obvious situations? Kids hanging out in the mall together? A local farmers’ market? Town meeting? The nearby coffee shop?

Is God at work in that world too?

Assuming God is already present and at work in the midst of us, this year’s ministry fair theme is going “on the hunt” to discover the Divine Surprises where God’s mission is at work around us — Places, experiences and opportunities that surround us all the time but do not look, feel, sound or smell like what we expect when we think of “mission.” God’s fingerprints might well be hidden in plain sight!

Gathering and being sent out (like the disciples), our day will begin and end with worship.

9:00 a.m. Gathering for coffee, juice, morning snacks and fellowship
9:30 a.m. Introduction to the day’s event and Ministry of the Word
10:30 a.m. We will send ourselves out into the world (literally) to journey for a time. Using guiding questions to shape our expedition, we will go out to see what we can find about how God is at work in the world around us in ways we might never have entertained before.*
11:45 a.m. We will return to Home Base and continue with a “Lunch Liturgy” patterned after the popular Dinner Church model. (Please bring your own bag lunch)
2:30 p.m. Eucharist will conclude around 2:30 p.m.

*Special note: For those with limited mobility, there will be a companion experience available at “Home Base.”

What you need:
• Enthusiasm, a sense of adventure and willingness to try something new
• Dress for the weather, including comfy walking shoes
• Bag lunch

What we need:
Your registration. Come along even if you don’t register, but since we will be carpooling a bit in White River Junction to travel to a few local haunts, it would be helpful to have an idea of how many to expect. The Burlington site will be “on foot.”

We hope to see you in either September or October as we go forth into the world discovering God at work in the Neighborhood.

“It may be when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.” – Wendell Berry
