The Rev. Canon Nicholas Porter will be the interim pastor at St. Mary’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church on Main Street in Wilmington. The new appointment was announced this week by Judith Louderback, the parish’s senior warden. “We are overjoyed. With a new, visible location and a new, energetic minister, St. Mary’s is ready for a new chapter in caring and service for this community”, said Louderback. Flooding caused by Hurricane Irene destroyed the congregation’s former building in August 2011. Canon Porter comes with considerable experience in leading the revitalization of church ministries which has led him to Jerusalem, Paris, Geneva and Connecticut. He believes that his Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation work with Jerusalem Peacebuilders and position as preaching instructor at St. Nersess Armenian Orthodox Seminary will help the parish claim new vision and purpose. Educated at Yale University, the American University in Cairo and King’s College, London, Porter currently lives in Brattleboro with this wife, Dorothy, and their daughters. Sunday worship is at 10 AM. For more information call: 802-464-9341.
