By Jim McKimm
We’re handing out some great music for your enjoyment. The Now Playing Newport Music Series at St. Mark’s, Newport, will begin its Fourth Season on Sunday, March 26, with the Fourth Annual Member Recital by members of the Newport Area Community Orchestra, also featuring Alexander Twilight Trio with Paula Graveline, Thurmond Knight, Linda Schneck, Josh Brennan (Marimba soloist), Linda Schneck (harp), Janice Luce (piano), Steven Tatum (bassoon) David Killam, (piano), and Frank Rudolph. The program begins at 3:00 PM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 44 Second Street, Newport, and there is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.
This is only the beginning of an exciting Fourth Season, which—in addition to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church—will present programs at the United Church of Newport!
On Sunday, April 2, Elisabeth von Trapp will return to Newport (having given two programs ten years ago) in a wonderful concert at the United Church of Newport, 63 Third Street, beginning at 3:00 PM. Born and raised in Vermont, Trapp is the granddaughter of the legendary Baron and Maria von Trapp, whose story inspired the movie The Sound of Music. Having sung professionally since childhood, Trapp has enthralled audiences from European cathedrals to Washington DC’s Kennedy Center. There is suggested donation of $10 at the door.
Additional programs will feature the Newport Area Community Orchestra, the NACO Chamber Ensemble, Fyre & Lightning Consort, Lake Region High School Jazz Band and Select Choir, INORA Brass Quintet, and more.
