By Harry Kendrick | Disaster Preparedness Coordinator
Earlier this month a save the date notice about the Vermont Disaster Preparedness Workshop was posted on the diocesan website and sent to all local church leaders. The workshop is being held on September 23, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, White River Junction, Vermont.
The Disaster Preparedness Workshop is being held on Saturday, September 23 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, White River Junction.
On behalf of the Vermont Disaster Preparedness Committee, we invite you to attend this workshop that will focus on disaster preparedness for local churches and for the Diocese. We hope that at least one member and possibly more from each parish will attend.
The committee and other key people involved in disaster relief regionally and nationally will be participating in the workshop. This will include a representative from Episcopal Relief and Development, United Way’s 211 programs, the Red Cross, and other local agencies.
The program will include Episcopal Relief and Development, United Way 211, Red Cross, and other local agencies.
In 2011, when Hurricane Irene devastated much of Vermont, the Episcopal Church in Vermont responded with support for our communities. At that time most parishes had not given much thought to disasters and how to react. This workshop will help us all to be better prepared for future disasters such as Irene, or even smaller ones that may only be impacting one town or family. Thinking and preparing in advance of such an event will help us to respond appropriately.
Please plan to attend the workshop. We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, please send an email to communications@dioceseofvermont.org.
