Two Missisquoi Valley Teens Build Ark to Travel Worldwide
SWANTON, VERMONT – Without using hammers, saws and nails, two area Missisquoi Valley (Swanton) students have successfully built an ark which will travel throughout the world!
Caylin Bessette and Cameron Nielsen, have long been involved in service learning projects through their high school and churches. About a year and half ago, both proposed joining forces to build an ark through Heifer International. This eighteen month period included coordination through their churches, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in St. Albans and Holy Trinity Episcopal in Swanton. They organized and taught service learning lessons on Heifer International at a week long cooking camp and conducted an extensive donation campaign in the local communities.
To date, they have successfully raised $5,420 to launch their ark. Because these two students have brought awareness to the benefits of Heifer International to our local community, this ark will set sail with donations of two water buffalos, two cows, two sheep, two goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits and educational opportunities for people fighting hunger, poverty, and hopelessness in various locations throughout the world. Through these resources and education, communities will build sustainability in their lives and improve the lives of their families for generations.
