St. Mark’s Newport Presents ‘Leonard Cohen’s Spiritual Quest Before and After Hallelujah’ Live & Streaming Event

Dr. Brian Trehearne, Professor of English McGill University

March 7 at 7 PM at Saint Marks – Leonard Cohen’s Spiritual Quest Before and After Hallelujah.  Dr. Brian Trehearne, Professor of English at McGill University, will present and lead a discussion focused on the spiritual quest and times of Leonard Cohen as perceived through his music and writings. Leonard Cohen grew up  in Montreal part of a religious Jewish family.  His journey that many of us know only through such songs as Suzanne, If it Be Your Will, Hallelujah and Marianne was often dark and despairing.  Dr. Trehearne is an acknowledged scholar in Canadian literature and frequently offers a semester long class on Leonard Cohen. Dr. Trehearne has also been recognized through numerous awards for excellence in teaching. This event is open to the public and will be held in the parish house at 44 2nd Street Newport.
