Stone Church Arts Announces Exciting Summer Music 2018 Lineup

BELLOWS FALLS, VT – In 2012, Eugene Friesen, renowned cellist and multi-Grammy award winner for his work with the Paul Winter Consort, first offered his Vermont Improv Intensive, Improvisation for Classical Musicians, a weekend, residential music workshop at Immanuel Episcopal Church, 20 Church St.

Since then, Stone Church Center has added the Retreat House at 14 Church St. and Currier Hall at 12 Church St and offering a summer full of music in the village of Bellows Falls, Vermont. Eugene still offers his workshops at Stone Church Center and now a variety of other musicians and music teachers present a diversity of programs for nearly every sort of musician interested in expanding their skills and repertoire.

If you play a stringed instrument, piano, frame drums or sing (any level), Stone Church Summer Music has a place or two for you to expand your musical horizons!

Our Summer Music residential workshops offer opportunities to learn and even perform with world class faculty:

  • Jun 1-3: Celtic Harp and Song with Aine Minogue
  • Jun 21-24: The Creative Cello Workshop with Eugene Friesen and Jacob Szekely
  • Jun 29-July 1: From Fear to Joy: Discover Your Inner Singer with Nancy Salwen
  • Jul 12-15: Gypsy Jazz and Brazilian with Eugene Friesen and Jason Anick
  • Aug 3-5: Adventurous Bluegrass Weekend with Carolyn Kendrick and Jake Howard
  • Aug 9-12: Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music X with August Watters, Ekaterina Skliar, and Aleksei Aleksandrov
  • Aug 16-19: Turkish Music Weekend with Jenny Luna, Adam Good, and Eylem Basaldi
  • Aug 23-26: Your Rhythm, Your Life, Pulse Tools for the Total Musician with Glen Velez, Loire Cotler, and Eugene Friesen

Concert-goers will also delight in the great diversity of world music on offer, from Eugene Friesen and friends’ cutting-edge world music and improvisation to Celtic harp, bluegrass, mandolin repertoire, drumming, singing, and Turkish music. Things will be heating up this summer with so many concerts both in the main church and in the air-conditioned chapel.

  • Jul 14: Free and Open Gypsy Jazz and Brazilian Participants’ Concert
  • Aug 4: The Page Turners, with Carolyn Kendrick and Jake Howard
  • Aug 12: (3 pm) Mandolin Festival Ensemble Concert with August Watters, Ekaterina Skliar, Aleksai Alexandrov and Festival Workshop Participants
  • Aug 18: Dolunay Trio with Jenny Luna, Adam Good, and Eylem Basaldi
  • Aug 24: Your Rhythm, Your Life Concert featuring Glen Velez, Loire Colter and Eugene Friesen
  • Aug 25: Free and Open Your Rhythm, Your Life Participants’ Concert 

Join us in Vermont this summer on our beautiful Stone Church Center campus for Stone Church Summer Music 2018. All the workshops begin on Thursday or  Friday evening. Participants arrive after 4 pm and dinner is at 6 pm. Please  consult our website,, for details and pricing on each workshop. Concerts are on Fridays or Saturdays at 7:30 pm except for the Mandolin Ensemble on Sunday, August 12 at 3 pm.
