Children’s Open Art Studio: Ages 11 and Up Beginning July 23

Dates: July 23 through August 2, 2018

Children’s Open Art Studio at Stone Church Art Center follows the nationally recognized and research-backed, choice-based art education and “The Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB)” partnership. C.H.O.I.C.E stands for “children having original, individualized, creative experiences”.

In a choice studio, there is no prescribed “project”. Instead, students choose their subject, technique and media. Each session will start with a demonstration of a technique or media, participants may either work with this or work on something else of their own choice. Each class will be fun, engaging and filled with plenty of materials and resources to spark creativity.

Below is a list of the demonstrations and dates. Because students are able to work with their own ideas and choices, each class will be different. Students can sign up for one class, or all eight! Every two for which you register, you automatically get one free! Plenty of individualized guidance will be offered. In addition to the demonstrations below, drawing materials, watercolors and basic craft items will be available each day:

Watercolor Painting

July 23 and/or July 30, 1:00 – 3:30 pm
Learn a variety of traditional and experimental watercolor techniques. Both abstract and realistic styles will be covered.

Drawing

July 24 and/or July 31, 1:00-3:30 pm
Learn a variety of traditional and experimental drawing techniques. Both abstract and realistic styles will be covered. Media will include: pencil, charcoal, markers and pastel

Recycled Sculpture

July 25 and/or August 1, 1:00 – 3:30 pm
Work with a variety of recycled materials to build one of a kind sculptures and inventions. There will be materials on hand, but it is also helpful is students bring in recycled items such as soap boxes, paper towel tubes and small plastic containers.

Collage

July 26 and/or August 2 , 1:00 – 3:30 pm
Create unique collages using a variety of materials and techniques. Feel free to bring in any materials from home to embellish your creation!

Faculty

Lisa Blanchette has over 20 years of art teaching experience. For the past seventeen years she has taught art to grades 1-8 in the New Hampshire Public School System. She has a child-centered approach to teaching and currently follows the nationally recognized and research backed choice-based art education and “The Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB)” partnership. Lisa earned an BA degree in Art from Plymouth State University and an MFA degree in Studio Art from Marywood University in Scranton, PA. She is also a practicing visual artist and works in a variety of two-dimensional media, including printmaking, watercolors and acrylic.
