Stone Church Arts presents  Mandolin Festival Ensemble concert 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Immanuel Episcopal Church (in the chapel), 20 Church St., Bellows Falls.

BELLOWS FALLS, VERMONT – Stone Church Arts presents Director August Watters, composer and mandolinist, with special guest Ekaterina Skliar, domra and mandolin, in a mandolin ensemble concert at 3 pm on Sunday, August 12. The concert will take place in the Chapel at Immanuel Episcopal Church, 20 Church St. The concert will also feature Celeste McClain, classical guitar, and participants of the Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music X.

Founded by August Watters, a Boston area teacher and composer, the Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music is designed for the classical mandolin community and for concert-goers interested in chamber music. The purpose of the festival is to create learning and performance opportunities for those interested in chamber music composed for mandolin and its related instruments (as well as classical guitar). Participants rehearse in preparation for the concert which is the finale of the workshop.

The festival ensemble is in the vanguard exploring both newly-composed and nearly-forgotten works for classical mandolin ensemble. Directed by August Watters, the ensemble presents a fresh, engaging and enjoyable concert experience for audiences of classical music, traditional folk music, and fans of the mandolin, mandola, mandocello, and classical guitar.

August Waters

August Watters is a multi-stylistic, improvising mandolinist, composer/arranger, and teacher in the Boston area. He has performed with some of the leading figures in today’s revival of this most elegant instrument, and the advancement of its musical traditions. His work as an interpreter, improviser, composer and arranger bridges contemporary classical music, jazz, folk music traditions, and the historical concert mandolin repertoire.

Ekaterina Skliar is a Philadelphia-based mandolinist and domrist. She made her debut at age 11 with the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Buryatia Republic. Since then Ekaterina has performed with many chamber ensembles and orchestras and worked with renowned musicians. She has performed throughout Russia and United States giving solo recitals, performing with Russian Folk Instruments orchestras, and chamber ensembles. Her large repertoire includes transcriptions of classical music, original works for domra and mandolin, contemporary and jazz music.

Celeste McClaine earned a Masters of Music (opera performance) from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and a Bachelors of Music (classical guitar) from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has been a stalwart performer with the Mandolin Festival Ensemble since the Festival’s inception in 2013.

Join Stone Church Arts for this Mandolin Festival Ensemble concert on Sunday, August 12 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel at Immanuel Episcopal Church, 20 Church St., Bellows Falls, Vermont. Since the Chapel only holds 60 people, tickets are limited. Tickets are $20.00 general admission ($15.00 for seniors and children under 12) in advance and $25 ($20) on the day of the performance.
