Episcopal Vermont to Participate in Burlington Pride Parade, September 8…Join Us!
When: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, Noon-2 pm.
Where: Meet at the Hood Plant Parking Lot on King Street, between Church and S. Winooski Avenue at noon. The parade starts at 12:30 PM.
This year, because Pride Day is a bit earlier in September and on a Saturday, rather than Sunday, there are not as many members of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Burlington, in town. We will be joining with Christ Church Presbyterian (CCP), our downstairs neighbors, each group bringing its banner. Come to march and join Deacon Stan Baker and others from St. Paul’s for the parade. Below is the message that CCP sent out, with some edits and additions by me (Stan):
Resist! In this time of increasing assaults on the rights of immigrants, people of color and the LGBTQA community, demonstrating with and on behalf of these communities becomes even more important. Significant political efforts to undermine the right to marry and other protections for the LGBTQ community are well underway at the national level and it’s a critical time for the churches to speak up.
CCP [and The Cathedral Church of St. Paul] has a long proud tradition of participating in the Pride Parade. Please join us as we carry our banners and show faith in action in this way. Note the changed day of the week: this year’s parade will take place on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 from noon- 2 pm, since Rosh Hashanah begins Sunday. Way to go demonstrating respect for all identities, PRIDE!
Our CCSP & CCP groups will walk near other church groups. We’ll meet in the Hood Plant parking lot on King Street and walk up Church Street, ending in Battery Park. Join us for the whole march or whatever amount of walking feels comfortable. Just let us know where we should look for you along the parade route.
