Third Annual Red Door Carol Sing at St. Mary’s to Support Deerfield Valley Rescue, December 1
WILMINGTON, VT – St. Mary’s in the Mountains is pleased to invite all to help welcome in the Holiday Season with its Third Annual Red Door Community Carol Sing on the afternoon of December 1. Come join the entire community to celebrate the season, singing traditional carols and seasonal favorites, and enjoying musical performances by Deerfield Valley musicians, tasty treats, and surprises.
The Red Doors on East Main Street will open at 3:15 PM, with hot cider and snacks available. Beginning at 3:30 PM, guests will be entertained by singers and musical ensembles, offering choral, traditional, and some new music of the season in a wide variety of styles. Then, starting at 4:00 PM, the audience is invited to join in singing Christmas Carols and seasonal songs, most of which have long been part of this time of year. There will be a few new ones, as well as some nontraditional arrangements of some classics. Among the performers and accompanists will be a ten-voice women’s chorus led by Sue Maddern, flautist Caitlin Sullivan, Ned Wilson, Eithne Eldred, Kathleen Loomis-Ward, Evon Mack, Holly and Joe Fortner, and others. Lyric books will be available for all, and interspersed with the sing-along will be short performances by Valley musicians of seasonal music in a wide variety of styles.
This Carol Sing is the tenth in St. Mary’s’ series of Red Door Concerts, each of which has raised money for local organizations that help our friends and neighbors.
This Carol Sing is the tenth in St. Mary’s’ series of Red Door Concerts, each of which has raised money for local organizations that help our friends and neighbors. This year, the Carol Sing supports Deerfield Valley Rescue, which since 1974 has provided pre-hospital emergency medical care to residents in this area. Its two full-time employees and approximately 25 volunteers staff ambulances 24 hours a day, and provide critical, time-sensitive help to our friends and neighbors.
“Each year, we look forward to planning and then sharing this fun, unique event. It’s an afternoon where friends and neighbors can get ‘in the spirit’ of the season, celebrate, and have fun, whether as performers, or singing and listening with a smile and a piece of gingerbread,” said Joe Fortner, a member of St. Mary’s and an organizer.
Admission is by free will donation, with all proceeds going to Deerfield Valley Rescue.
