St. Peter’s to Harness Sun’s Rays and Power Church Building, Community Outreach

BENNINGTON, VT – A group from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington recently announced its work with Power Guru Solar Systems on a plan to install a solar array on the roof of the parish hall. The group hopes to demonstrate Episcopal Church leadership in environmental stewardship and potentially eliminate the St. Peter’s electric bill. Additionally, the group has stated its intent to offer the remaining roof space for panels to be sold or leased to one or more local non-profit agencies. “We feel the Holy Spirit is guiding this effort as we look at creating a healthy source of energy for our church and our community partners,” sources said in a January 4 email. An estimated 15 solar panels costing a total of $15, 192 are needed to meet St. Peter’s energy requirements. St. Peter’s has submitted for grants to fund nearly half the project and is seeking to raise the remaining $8,000.
