‘Go, Tell It on the Mountains – Evangelism Vermont-Style’ at the October 2018 Diocesan Convention was the kickoff for the evangelism initiative in the Diocese of Vermont. Energizing plenary talks were offered by Stephanie Spellers and Jeremy Tackett, stimulating workshops were well attended, and a bunch of people stepped forward to be commissioned as Evangelism Catalysts.
Now, in 2019, here’s what’s underway from the Green Mountain Witness Team:
We’re contacting the commissioned Evangelism Catalysts to support them in their work in their congregations and neighboring congregations.
We’re contacting congregations around the diocese to explore how we can best catalyze evangelism by Episcopalians – maybe have a conversation with the vestry or other parish leaders, maybe offer one or two workshops during coffee hour, on a Saturday or a weeknight. A number of these contacts have been made, and things are happening at, for instance, St. Mary’s in Wilmington, St. Stephen’s in Middlebury, Good Shepherd in Barre, St. Luke’s in St. Albans, Holy Trinity in Swanton, Grace Church in Sheldon and St. Matthew’s in Enosburg.
We’re inviting others to join in the effort as team members or as local catalysts, by contacting any team member or convener Titus Presler (tituspresler@post.harvard.edu).
Staying in touch about resources from the Evangelism Team of the Episcopal Church, which is headed by our convention keynoter Stephanie Spellers.
If you’d like to explore what evangelism might look like in your community, please be in touch with Titus or any Green Mountain Witness Team member (see email addresses on the Team Members page).
