On June 7, Archdeacon Catherine Cooke was named a recipient of the Recognition of Diaconal Ministry in the Tradition of St. Stephen conferred by the Association for Episcopal Deacons at the organization’s Triennial Conference in Providence, RI. St. Stephen honorees demonstrate a deep commitment to the ministry of servanthood following the practice of St. Stephen and according to the fundamental statement of the Bishop at the ordination of a deacon as described on page 543 of the Book of Common Prayer. Catherine was recognized as a Founder of Organizations having been instrumental in the launches of the Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP), Vermont Interfaith Action, and Cathedral Square Corporation (started by the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Burlington). In the photo above, Catherine is pictured with Vermont deacons Zarina Suárez O’Hagen and Stannard Baker. Additional photos are below, and a video of the presentation can be found here – courtesy of Deacon Stannard Baker.
