Burlington, Vermont – The Rock Point Board today announced a new staffing model for Rock Point Commons designed to align key leaders with four roles focused on the long-term sustainability of the 130-acre sanctuary. The new staffing model provides for a full-time Building, Grounds & Security Manager, a full-time Bookkeeper & Executive Assistant, a part-time Camp Director, and a full-time Executive Director.
Rock Point Board President Shawn Bryan commented that the new staffing model represents an exciting milestone for Rock Point, a ministry of the Episcopal Church in Vermont.
“In 2015, the Diocesan Convention of The Episcopal Church in Vermont established Rock Point Commons, the ministry in charge of land use, business, building maintenance, and staffing for the Rock Point property,” Bryan explained. “That decision also revealed a need to look more strategically at the resources that would be required to sustain Rock Point well into the future.”
In the years that have followed, the Rock Point Board and management committee, in conjunction with external partners, such as the Rock Point and Arms Forest Coalition, have made significant strides in land use planning, business planning, and building maintenance. The newly announced staffing model—the final strategic resource—puts the day-to-day operations of Rock Point Commons in the hands of a specialized team of leaders.
One especially significant change to the Rock Point staff will be the addition of an Executive Director. Reporting to the Rock Point Board, and serving as an advisor to the Bishop, the Executive Director will be responsible for continuing the development of Rock Point Commons into a self-sustaining ministry. The Executive Director will also serve as a chief executive officer for Rock Point Commons and its entities, which include the Solar Co-op, Rock Point Center, and Rock Point Camp. Additionally, the Executive Director will oversee Rock Point staff and volunteers.
The search for an Executive Director will begin in July in the hopes of naming an appointee later this fall. The Rock Point Board expects the new staffing model to be fully implemented by the end of the year and will be providing updates as progress is made.
Episcopal Bishop Thomas Ely added, “The new staffing model is the result of years of prayerful effort on the part of the Rock Point Board and management committee, which we believe will help realize our Vision as a welcoming sanctuary of spirituality, creativity, community, education, training, and environmental stewardship.”
