Emergency Community Convening to Discuss Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on Tuesday 12/10 at 5:30PM

By Vermont Interfaith Action

BURLINGTON, VT – In the wake of recent and alarming reporting by Seven Days, highlighting the culture of sexual assault, harassment and exploitation of both women inmates and staff at Vermont’s only prison for women, an open community forum will be held Tuesday, December 10th, from 5:30-7PM, at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue in Burlington (188 N. Prospect Street) to discuss desperately needed systems accountability and immediate change.

The reporting has brought to light what many have known for years and that many have also sadly experienced: a pervasive culture of rape, victimization and the unspoken consequences of over-incarceration. This facility has been operating in plain sight, in Vermont’s most populous county, adjacent to Vermont’s most populous city, yet the problems persist seemingly unchecked.

The community would like to hear from each of you, and we invite you to lend your voice on a panel discussion. Link to Facebook event here.
