The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church. It is a triennial meeting with a bicameral legislature, the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops, and the membership of each house is outlined in Article I of the Constitution and Canons of The Episcopal Church.
The House of Bishops meets twice a year, and Bishop Shannon is an active member.
The House of Deputies meets only during the General Convention, and each diocese is represented by eight elected deputies, four clergy and four lay, and eight alternates. Alternate Deputies are just that. Should a deputy no longer be able to complete their canonical duties, an alternate takes their place. Additionally, alternates are expected to attend the convention should a crisis arise requiring a deputy to step down.
The following individuals will represent the Diocese of Vermont as deputies at the 2027 General Convention:
- Lay: Luke Krueger (L1), Tom Little (L2), Anne Brown (L3), and Anna Youngmann (L4)
The next meeting of the General Convention will take place July 3-8, 2027 in Phoenix, AZ.
