The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont is in a time of experimentation, exploring new and renewed ways to create a community where young people experience belonging, explore faith, and discover how their gifts can make a difference in the world.
We celebrate the wisdom of our young people, as demonstrated by Jesus’ time with the teachers of the temple in Luke 2:41-52: “After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.”
We Believe:
- Youth are not “the future of the Church”—they are an active, vital part of the Church today.
- Young people have gifts worth nurturing.
- Play builds trust, connection, and joy. It’s one of the most accessible ways for youth and leaders to form community and practice what it means to be the Body of Christ.
Who We Seek To Be
- Belonging: We seek to create safe, welcoming spaces where young people can show up as their full, real selves.
- Formation: We seek to help them develop confidence, wisdom, and a sense of purpose they can carry into every part of life.
- Serving: We seek to love our neighbors, learn from others, and practice our faith in action.
An Opportunity for the Whole Church
You don’t have to be young—or an expert—to support youth. Every person and every parish has something to offer. You might consider:
- Hosting service projects in your parish or community
- Sharing equipment (kayaks, tools, vans, games)
- Helping us tell our story through photography, art, or music
- Providing food, rides, or chaperone support
- Simply showing up and cheering our young people on
Why This Matters
Young people are growing up in an unsteady and ever-changing world. Church can be a place where they feel steady, seen, and supported in a unique way beyond their school and community networks. When we invest in youth, we strengthen the whole community.
