Save the Date for a Special Convention on the Episcopal Transition – September 29

Mark your calendars! The Rt. Rev. Thomas C. Ely, bishop of Vermont, has called for a Special Convention regarding the Episcopal Transition on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. (Please plan to arrive by 9:30 AM for check-in and seating.) The Convention planners are working to secure a venue presently, with a preference for Central Vermont. The exact location and meeting details will be distributed soon.

Bishop Ely said, “I have called the Special Convention for the purpose of hearing reports from the Standing Committee and Bishop Discernment & Nominating Committee and to act on their recommendations regarding the next Bishop of Vermont.”

The business agenda will include a discussion of conventional and possible alternative models of Episcopal leadership for the Diocese, as well as the future bishop’s compensation. These issues must be addressed prior to the regularly scheduled diocesan convention in order to keep the discernment and search process on its established timetable. Additionally, since September 29 marks the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, a Special Convention worship service will be held.

Lay delegates elected by their parish are eligible to vote in this convention along with canonically resident clergy who meet eligibility requirements. All members of the Episcopal Church in Vermont, regardless of voting eligibility, are welcome to attend.

Complete details are forthcoming. We hope to see you at the Special Convention
