Dear People of God,
This evening, stories of flash floods and cresting rivers continue to dominate the news across our state. Governor Scott and our emergency management crews have urged everyone to remain at home unless they are in the path of floodwaters, and I join my voice to theirs. At the same time, it is important that everyone who might be in harm’s way has an evacuation plan ready. You can find more information about how to stay safe on the Vermont Emergency Management website, and follow VT-ALERT on Facebook to get updates from local and state officials about conditions in your area.
Earlier today, Canon Walter Brownridge began a conversation with Episcopal Relief & Development about how they can assist us in responding to our communities in the aftermath of these floods. I will be in touch with you in the coming days as the needs of our neighbors become clear. If your congregation has an immediate need for assistance due to the floods, please call or email Canon Brownridge at any time.
I pray that, as darkness falls, God will be with all those in the path of danger. Please pray for them and for our first responders who are working tirelessly as the waters rise.
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
