Diocesan Family Fun Day and Golf Tournament

Dear Diocesan Friends,
On Saturday, September 15, 2012, the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont will be hosting its first ‘Our Episcopal Family Day and Golf Tournament’ at the Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes, Vermont. This day is coming together and promises to be a wonderful time to share fellowship with friends near and far in the diocese. There will be opportunities for swimming, both at the pool or in Lake Champlain, bike, boat, canoe and kayak rentals, hiking, games and activities for children, along with a festive BBQ to close the day. You could also choose to take a garden tour for free or, for a small charge, you could take a boat tour or a museum visit. Don’t forget the golf tournament for all who love the game. Our Diocesan Family Day could even serve as your parish summer picnic! Download a registration form (MS Word) here or (pdf) here. (Links to a separate golf tournament form are below.)Other than your participation on the day, here are two primary ways you can help us make this day a financial success:

First is by sending a foursome of golfers, or any number of players for the outing. The golf tournament will begin at 10:00am with a shot-gun start, a lunch will be included, prizes for longest putt and farthest drive, along with many other fun golfing activities. Download a tournament registration form (MS Word) here or (pdf) here.

Secondly, there will be a silent auction. This will be a fun activity for all participants of the day, and it is in this activity where I ask your assistance. I invite all parishes throughout the diocese to bring with them on September 15th a “Theme Basket” filled with goodies that represent your parish, town, area or region of our beautiful state. In your Theme Basket, please consider filling it with products, gift certificates, coupons, and/or homemade items that will be of interest to as many of the day’s participants as possible. For example, if you lived in Cabot, put together a basket of cheese. If you have a chicken pie supper for a fund raiser, offer a free ticket to the event, or a frozen chicken pie. If you live where people vacation, put together a basket filled with lunch coupons, bike maps, ski tickets, and the like. I encourage you to find donors for your basket items, keeping your cost as low as possible. You could make it whole church event filling the basket, or ask one person to come up with a fun theme. The sky is the limit, and I hope you will join me and the people of St. John’s in the Mountains in Stowe in creating a fun and creative “Theme Basket”.

Sincerely,

The Rev. Rick Swanson
Chair, Our Diocesan Family Day and Golf Tournament
